Former the Barrack of the 4th Infantry Regiment (Sendai City)
The Meiji government promulgated a conscription in 1873, and began to form the army of modern nations.
A garrison was set up in Sendai also, and the barracks was built in 1874. Then new buildings were built in 1876, it is unclear which one of the remaining building is currently in existence.
After the defeat of Japan 1945, US troops were stationed there, after which it was used for the buildings of police school.
In 1977, six of the seven buildings were dismantled, and the remaining one was relocated and preserved to make it a historical museum.
