Former Yokohama City Earthquake Memorial Museum (former location : Yokohama City)

After the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, the city of Yokohama decided to open a memorial museum in order to convey the lessons of the disaster.
The first museum opened in 1924. It had to be relocated twice due to land use for public facilities, and the building was constructed as the third museum.
The memorial museum, which opened in 1928, relinquished its collection in 1942 due to wartime metal offerings and was re-launched as a civic museum.
However, the museum was closed in 1944 due to the intensification of air raids, and later the city council moved here, causing the museum to spontaneously cease to exist.
After the war, the museum was used by university laboratories, zoo offices and municipal facilities, before opening in 1964 as a wedding hall, which remained open until 1991.
The building was then demolished around 1994.
