Tsuruga Town Office was built in 1933. The building was donated to the town by local businessman Shoshichi Ohwada (2nd generation).
Tsuruga Town became Tsuruga City in 1937 due to a merger, and the name of the building was changed to Tsuruga City Office.
The use of this building ended when
the new city office was completed and relocated in 1974.
The old government building was subsequently demolished and the Tsuruga Citizen Culture Center was built on the site in 1976.
