Nagahama station building was built in 1882. After the station was relocated in 1902, this station building was used as a warehouse.
It has been used as a railway museum since 1983.
Currently, the three facilities - the Nagahama Railway Culture Museum (opened in 2000) and the Hokuriku Line Electrification Memorial Museum (opened in 2003), both built behind the old station building - are collectively known as Nagahama Railway Square.
