Tucker House of Vories Memorial Hospital (Omihachiman City)

This building was constructed in 1918 as the main building of the Omi Ryoyoin (sanatorium). As American Mary Tucker made a donation for its construction, it was named the “Anna Danforth Tucker Memorial Building” after her mother. The design was handled by the Voris Architectural Office.
The sanatorium was renamed the Omi Sanatorium in 1946, and further renamed the Voris Memorial Hospital in 1971.
This building served as a patient ward until around 1980, after which it was used solely as an administrative building.
Due to deterioration, the hospital announced plans to demolish Tucker House in 2005, but a preservation decision was made following a citizen opposition campaign.
Renovation work was carried out from 2012 to 2023.
