Former the main building of Osaka Arsenal (former location : Higashi Ward, Osaka City)

This building was built as the cannon factory of the Ministry of Army in 1873. In later it was commonly called the "main building", but it seems that the building was actually one of the factory buildings.
It was damaged in an air raid in 1945 and was seized by GHQ after the war until 1952.
The area was then developed into a park. There was a campaign to preserve the building and an order from the Agency for Cultural Affairs to investigate, but Osaka City ignored these and demolished the building in 1981.

(The former location ‘Higashi Ward, Osaka City’ is the name of the place when the building was demolished. In 1989, Higashi and Minami wards were merged to form Chuo Ward.)
