This is the cathedral of the Georgian Orthodox Church in the capital city of Tbilisi. The first cathedral was built around the 6th to 7th centuries.
The current cathedral is based on a structure built in the 12th century, but it has suffered damage from invasions multiple times since then and has been repaired repeatedly.
After Georgia was annexed by Russia in 1801, it became a cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Church. However, following the Russian Revolution of 1917, it regained its independence as the Georgian Orthodox Church.
During the Soviet era, it endured persecution but continued to function as a church.
It served as the Patriarchal cCathedral of the Georgian Orthodox Church until the Holy Trinity Cathedral was built in 2004.
