Porvoo is said to be founded in the 14th century, and it is the second oldest town in Finland.
This town hall was built from 1762 to 1764.
Finland was under Swedish rule since the middle of the 12th century, but as a result of the Swedish-Russian war of 1808-09, it became under Russian rule. The Grand Duchy of Finland was founded under the rule of Russia, and the Porvoo parliament was convened for the purpose of duchy founding. This building was used as one of the conference hall.
Currently, it is used as an art museum.
