Biete Maryam [St. Maryam Church] (Lalibela, Amhara Region)

In Ethiopia there are churches made by sculpting solid rock. The town Lalibela has eleven churchues. Although the precise age is unknown, it is presumed that the churches were made from the latter half of the 12th century to the 13th century. These were registered as a World Heritage (cultural heritage) in 1978.
This Biete Mariam is one of them. It is thought to had been made for the first in these churches. The interior of the church is decorated with murals.
