This building is a French colonial merchant's house in Grand Bassam, built in 1918 by a large merchant from Bassam. It is one of the largest trading houses in the city; the ground floor was apparently used for shops and warehouses, while the second floor was used as a residence.
It stands almost opposite the Maison Ganamet. (The Maison Ganamet was built in 1920, so the Maison Varle was built before it.)
In 2012, Grand Bassam was inscribed on the World Heritage List. The building was in a dilapidated state, but Google maps shows that it is now used as a restaurant.
