Fortress Osama was built to guard the entrance to the colonial port of Santo Domingo. It was built between 1505 and 1507 by order of Nicolás de Ovando, the governor of the time.
The tower is the tallest building in the fort, with a height of 18 meters and walls 2 meters thick.
