Former Ibaraki Prefectural Office (Mito City)

The construction began in April 1929 for the Ibaraki Prefectural Office building. Designed by Oshio Akira and constructed by Takenaka Corporation, the project was rushed to meet the November deadline for the Imperial Headquarters and temporary residence during the Army Special Grand Maneuvers. Although the tower remained unfinished, the building was used for the military exercise.
The entire structure was completed in May 1930.
Then it was extended to the 4th floor in 1979.
This building was damaged in the Great East Japan Earthquake. In 2012, the addition was removed, seismic reinforcement was performed, and it was restored to its original state.
