Former Takegahana Elementary School (former location : Takegahana Town, Haguri County)

Takegahana Village was located in the area now included in the city of Hashima. Takegahana School was established in 1874 by merging two schools created in 1873.
This school building was built in 1880.
However, the school building collapsed during the 1891 Nobi Earthquake. Out of a population of 4,950 in the town of Takegahana (the village became the town in 1889) at the time, 268 people were killed and 238 injured. All buildings in the town were also damaged.
The school built a temporary school building in 1892 and resumed classes. Subsequently, the main school building was constructed in 1894.
Note that Takegahana Town is currently part of Hashima City. (Merged in 1954.)
