Former the Machine Shop of Kumamoto Technical College (Kumamoto City)
This building was built as a machine shop of Kumamoto High School of Technology. The school was renamed Kumamoto Technical College in 1944.
In 1949, it was reorganized as Kumamoto University.
Since the new factory was built in 1970, its use as a facility has ended.
The building has been used as a research museum since 1977.
In 1994, it was designated as a national important cultural property.
