The Obata Memorial Library was established in 1908 based on books donated by Tokujiro Obata, a native of Nakatsu. This building was newly built in 1938.
The library was relocated in 1992, then this building has been used as the Nakatsu Folk Museum.
It was registered as a tangible cultural property in 1997.
