Former Akita Prefectural Akita Library (former location : Akita City)

In 1914, the prefectural assembly decided to build a library and memorial hall as a project to commemorate the accession of Emperor Taisho to the throne, and the building was completed in 1918.
The library opened in June 1919. In addition to a general reading room, there were also reading rooms for children and women.
Building maintenance has included repairing the roof for leaks in 1931, dealing with earthquake damage in 1939, and renovating the exterior walls and interior in 1952 and 1955. However, the aging of the building and lack of space in the stacks led to requests for the construction of a new library. And in 1960 the prefectural assembly decided to build a new library.
The new library was completed in September 1961, and was relocated and opened in November 1961.
The old building was demolished a few years after the move.
