Former Naha Baptist Church (former location : Naha City)

This building was completed in 1917 as Naha Baptist Church. It was designed by William Merrell Voris.
In the midst of the Pacific War, the building was destroyed by fire in an air raid on Naha on October 10, 1944.
After the war, the U.S. military built temporary chapels in 11 locations in Okinawa, and in 1948, Protestant denominations joined together to form the Okinawa Christian Federation. It was reorganized as the Okinawa Christian Church in 1953, but the Baptist Church withdrew from the organization that year, forming the Okinawa Baptist Convention in 1955.
