Former Padangsche Spaarbank (Padang)



This building is former the Padangsshe Spaarbank, built in 1908 during the Dutch colonial period.
When the Japanese occupied Indonesia during World War II, they confiscated several banks, including Spaarbank. After Indonesia's independence, it became the office of the West Sumatra Savings Bank.
From 1994, it was used as a hotel, and in 1998 it was designated as a cultural heritage site by the city of Padang. However, it was abandoned after being damaged by the Sumatra Earthquake in 2009.
They underwent restoration work around 2023 and started operating as a cafe.
