The walled city of Ávila, located west of Madrid, features fortifications whose construction began around the late 11th century (or the 12th century). The walled area and the churches surrounding the walls are designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This gate is located on the eastern side of the wall. Construction began in 1090, making it one of the first gates built. It appears to have undergone repairs and reconstruction (perhaps in the 16th century?).
The towers on either side stand 20 meters tall, with an arch bridge spanning between them. It was also possible to attack from above this arch bridge.
