Dona Maria Pia Lighthouse (Praia)

This lighthouse was built in 1881 on Cape Ponta Temerosa, at the southern tip of Santiago Island, at the entrance to Praia Harbor. The lighthouse is named after Maria Pia de Savoia (1847-1911), the Portuguese queen consort at that time. (Sometimes called the Ponta Temerosa Lighthouse after the name of the cape.)
The octagonal tower is 21 meters high, and the light source is located 25 meters above the sea surface. The lighthouse is still in operation and was declared a cultural heritage site of Cabo Verd in 2025.
