La Merced Church (Antigua Guatemala)

The constraction of La Merced Church and Monastery in Antigua Guatemala started in 1749 and it was completed in 1764. There was damage in the Guatemala earthquake in 1773 (Santa Marta earthquake), but it seems to have escaped collapse. But in the interior, there are parts collapsed by the earthquake. I have read that someone said it was rebuilt in the mid-19th century, but I could not confirm it.
The front entrance is decorated by the relief made by plaster craftsmen.
In the Holy Week (Semana Santa) in March or April every year, the parade starts from this church and go around the city and back to the church.
