Churches in Nagasaki, from “Hidden Christian Sites in Nagasaki Region”
The pop-up cards of Japanese buildings have been updated.
This time I created the Shitsu Catholic Church which is in Nagasaki City.
The church is part of the World Heritage Site “Hidden Christian Sites in the Nagasaki Region" registered in 2018.
However, this church alone does not constitute a component of the heritage.
The church is included the component “Shitsu Village in Sotome", one of the 12 properties included in the World Heritage Site of Hidden Christian, as shown on the map.

The “Shitsu Village in Sotome" represents the fact that the Christians in hiding in the village of Shitsu secretly worshipped and continued their faith in sacred images derived from Christianity.
The site includes the ruins of a temporary church, the Shitsu Church building, the cemetery of the hidden Christians, the ruins of the local magistrate’s office, and the ruins of the residence where the holy images were kept. (The private property is off-limits.)
Together, these are a single component.
A temporary church was built in 1873, and the Shitsu Church was built in 1882.
Although I created only one pop-up card ot Shitsu Church newly, I have created other churches included in the list of the hidden Christians Sites before.
So I will post these photos.
Kashiragashima Catholic Church.
The church is included in the “Villages on Kashiragashima Island" component.
I created this card in 2004.
Egami Catholic Church.
It is included in the “Egami Village on Naru Island (Egami Church and its Surroundings)" component.
The pop-up card was made in 2013.
Sakitsu Catholic Church.
It is included in the “Sakitsu Village in Amakusa" component. This church is located in Kumamoto Prefecture.
I created the card in 2016.
These are the churches related to the World Heritage Site for which I have created pop-up cards in the past.
