Improvements to Pop-up Cards (Buildings in Hiroshima City)
Since it is August, I have been researching buildings damaged by the atomic bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
I am creating new cards, but I have also created improved versions of cards I made previously, so in this article, I will only write about the improved versions.
I already posted about the pop-up card giveaway project last time, this card of the former Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall was revised in July.

I first created this card in 2003, and have since improved it twice.
The last improvement was in 2019, and that card is shown here.

At the time, I thought it was fine, but when I compared it to actual photos of the building, I realized that the ratio of height to width did not match the actual building.
So, I made the building a little lower and adjusted the balance in this card. I also changed the way the windows were cut out.
Incidentally, I also had a photo of the card created in 2003, so I will post it here. At that time, I did not seem to have an accurate understanding of the shape of the roof.

The next card is the former Hiroshima Weather Station. It is listed on my main website as the “former Hiroshima Local Meteorological Observatory,” but the name at the time of completion was “former Hiroshima Weather Station,” so I would like to correct it when updating.
This one is from an old card. It was made in 2009.

When I compared it to a photo of the actual building, I noticed that the spacing between the windows was a bit off, so I fixed that.
I also felt that the wind observation tower was too simplified last time, so I improved that as well.
Here’s the card I made this time. I also slightly corrected the shape of the eaves at the entrance.

The stairs of the wind observation tower are on the outside, but since I couldn’t make them three-dimensional, I cut out the shape of the stairs to represent them.
But looking at it now, I feel like I didn’t need to cut out the shape of the stairs. Was this unnecessary?

I haven’t updated the main website yet, but I plan to update it soon along with the newly created card.
Since I haven’t updated it since the beginning of August, I thought I’d at least update the blog first.
