MacBook Pro Hurts My Hands (Sequel)
Two years ago, I wrote an article titled “The MacBook Pro hurts my hands.”
The problem was that the MacBook Pro’s edges are sharp, causing pain when my palms or wrists touched them.
At the time, I applied door cushioning tape. Since two years have passed, I thought I’d report on how it feels to use now.

The tape is still attached to my MacBook Pro today.
I can’t use my Mac without it now.
The tape peels off over time, so I’ve replaced it multiple times.
I didn’t keep records, so it’s not exact, but I think I replaced it roughly every few months.
Some of the tape from two years ago is still there, so I’m using that.
It’s Scotch’s “Door Stopper Wave Tape for Entrance Doors” product.
I compared it with a photo from two years ago.

Since I haven’t used it for anything else these past two years, all the reduction is from applying it to my MacBook Pro. I’ve used about three rounds of tape. That’s roughly 1m to 1.2m.
The tape comes in two connected strips like this; we cut them apart to use.
I use two 15cm pieces each time, so that means I’ve used it about 7-8 times. It seems to match my memory well.

Early on, I sometimes just added more double-sided tape to repair areas that had partially peeled off, but that actually made it peel more easily, so I stopped. Now I just replace it with new tape.

Even after two years of use, I haven’t experienced any symptoms like itchy or red hands. As long as the MacBook Pro design doesn’t change, I think I’ll keep using it this way.
Honestly, I think Apple should have designed this corner with the understanding that it’s a place humans will touch.
