Pop-up card : World Heritage Site in Chile
I made pop-up cards of World Heritage Site in Chile.
The name of the heritage is the “Churches of Chiloé". The Chiloe Islands is on the Pacific coast of southern Chile. There are 16 churches and they have been designated as World Heritage Sites.
This photo is one of them, “Church of San Juan".
It is a church on Chiloe Island (main island), and the current building is said to have been completed around 1887.
Indigenous people lived in the Chiloe Islands, but Spain declared possession of the islands in the mid-16th century. The Jesuit missionaries entered from the beginning of the 17th century and began their missionary work. Many wooden churches had been built, but the existing churches are said to had been built in the 18th and 19th centuries.
The architectural style of these churches is called the “Chiloe style", which is a mixture of European styles such as Gothic and Baroque architecture and local styles.
I made two pop-up cards this time.
Another work is “Achao Church".
The construction of the church was started around 1730-40 and was completed in 1770. But it seems that there were repairs after that, the nave of the church is from the 18th century, but the tower is built in the early 20th century.
The Achao Church is not on the main island of Chiloe, but on the neighboring island of Quinchao.

Chiloe was also the last base of the chased Spanish troops when Chile became independent in 1817. In 1826, Spanish troops surrendered and the islands became Chilean territory.
Regarding the paper pattern, the Achao Church was assembled using different parts, so the paper pattern does not fit on one sheet. Therefore, I released the pattern of the church of San Juan.
