Tour of Kyoto State Guest House (2)

2025-06-13

Let’s take a look at the inside of the “Yubae-no-ma” room a little more.

This is a Raden (mother-of-pearl inlay) decorated table. It is titled “Sanshi-suimei", a word for beautiful nature. There are four tables, each representing one of the four seasons. This photo is “Spring” (image of cherry blossoms).

And this is “Summer” (image of green trees). Although there is no photo, the reddish brown color for autumn represents the autumn, and the blue color for cold clear air represents winter.

This is a set of tea utensils used in situations where tables and chairs are used. It is marked “first public exhibition".

We move on to the next room while watching the rain.

This is the “Fuji-no-ma" Room. It is the largest room in the Kyoto State Guest House.

It is used as a venue for Western-style banquets and welcoming ceremonies.

The ceiling lighting is something amazing.

The wall decoration is a woven fabric made by “Tsuzure-ori", based on a painting by Japanese-style painter Kiyomichi Shikami. The width of the fabric is 16.6 meters.

A close-up of a part of the fabric.

This is the stage in the Fuji-no-ma room.

The hinoki (Japanese cypress) doors dividing the stage are decorated with “Kirikane" (a technique of drawing patterns by pasting gold or silver leaf) patterns. This pattern is beautiful.

These “Kazari Kanamono" (metal ornaments) are also cool.

Now, let’s move on.

This is a Japanese kitchen, although we only passed by.
