Popup card, former Gifu Prefectural Office

I previously wrote an article about the former Gifu Prefectural Office building, so here is a pop-up card of that building.

Actually, it was last December when I created it, and I have already posted the images on Instagram. Since the update of the main site has been delayed, I posted them on the blog first.

This is lighted from the back.

The arrows (1)  indicate the connection between the center section and the left and right sections.
The card can be folded without being connected, and it would look cleaner without being connected. But it opens and closes more smoothly if it is connected, so recently I have been trying to connect them as much as possible.

The front staircase with the arrow (2) has a step difference of 1.75mm.
When the fold line is long and the steps are small, I increase the number of cuts at the crease to make it easier to fold, but it is still difficult to fold.
Perhaps it would be better to make the incision more finely, like a dotted line.

Please see the movie at the end.

The opening and closing motion is smooth, but the front staircase part is probably not folded properly.

This would not be suitable for publishing the pattern, because the staircase is hard to fold and it is troublesome to cut out the window. I am currently working on pop-up cards for other buildings in Gifu Prefecture, and will update the main site when I have cards that are a little easier to fold.
