Pop-up cards (Okayama Prefecture: architecture designed by Kazue Yakushiji)

2016-10-23

I would like to express my deepest sympathies to the victims of the earthquake in Kyushu.
I hope that they will be able to return to their daily lives as soon as possible.

The pop-up cards have been updated.
This time these are the buildings in Okayama Prefecture.
One architect from Okayama Prefecture is Kazue Yakushiji (1884-1965). I remembered his name because the Ohara Museum of Art was designed by him. When I looked into it again, I realized that many of the buildings he designed have been lost.
So I decided to make pop-up cards limited to buildings designed by him.

The first photo is the Ohara Museum of Art in Kurashiki City. This is still used as an art museum today. For this pop-up card, I wanted to create a wall behind the front columns, so I cut out separate parts from the ground section and glued them together.

The second photo shows the former headquarters of Daiichi Godo Bank. It was used as the head office of the Chugoku Bank following the bank’s merger. The Chugoku Bank head office was rebuilt in 1990 and a new building was completed, so I suppose it was demolished shortly before that.
(Postscript : The building was demolished in 1989.)

The third photo shows the former Okayama City Public Hall.
This one was probably demolished around 1967. I couldn’t find a clear record of the year of demolition, so I guessed that it was demolished in 1967 by comparing aerial photographs from the GSI. The photos are too small to be clear, but it seems as if a photo taken in that year shows the building under demolition.

Other buildings designed by Kazue Yakushiji, such as the former Kurashiki Branch of Daiichi Godo Bank and the former Ajino Branch of Daiich Godo Bank, are still in existence. However, many of the demolished buildings cannot be found on the internet, although their names are recognizable, but no photos can be found. I am curious to find out more.

The pattern available for download this time is the former Okayama City Public Hall.
