Pop-up Cards of World Heritage Sites in China

2019-10-16

It has been almost two and a half months, I uploaded new World Heritage pop-up cards.

This time, the models are selected from the World Heritage Sites in China.

The photo is St. Lawrence Church.

Macau, now the Macau Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, was a Portuguese colony until 1999.

The Portuguese came to China (Ming Dynasty) in the 16th century and obtained the right of settlement in Macau in 1557. At that time, the territory still belonged to the Ming Dynasty, but in 1845, after the Opium War (1840-42), the Chinese (Qing) customs officials were removed and occupied, and in 1887, Macau was officially made a colony.

Many architectural structures from the settlement and colonial periods remain, and were registered as a World Heritage site in 2005.

In all, more than 20 buildings and 8 squares are included in the World Heritage List, including 7 Christian churches (including ruins).

St. Lawrence Church was founded by the Jesuits in the 16th century. The present building was rebuilt in the mid-19th century.

The second photo is St. Domingo Church. This church was founded in 1587, and the present building was built in the late 19th century. I looked at various sources, but the written years did not match and I could not determine the year of completion. The Chinese version of wikipedia says that the church was rebuilt after a fire in 1874, but I am not sure.

Both cards are rather detailed, which may make them difficult to fold. The pattern of St. Lawrence Church is available for download.
If you would like, please try it.
