Pop-up card with decorative frame (improved version)

2024-08-05

I have previously written about a card with a decorative frame, and this is an improved version of that.
I made a pattern so that it can be done without a punch.
Here is the work.

Snowman family.

I used two sheets of colored construction paper. I made the inside red and the outside green.

The snowman’s hat, scarf, and gloves are cut from the red construction paper inside. Therefore, all of them are the same color.
If you want to change the color, use different construction paper only there.

In my initial conception, I intended to use only construction paper for coloring, but after making the snowman, I realized that the eyes and mouth of the snowman would be difficult to see. I could see them from some angles, though.

So I decided to use colored parts for the eyes and nose. I stuck them on from the back.
I wanted to make the star yellow as well, so I used colored parts for that.
I forced the parts to fit into the blank space of the first pattern.

I made the colored parts wider so that they can be pasted even if they are slightly off the pattern.
Looking at the pattern paper alone, it looks suspicious. But it will be fine once it is pasted.

Please see the main website for specific instructions on how to make one.
Here it is.

Improvements since the last time (October),
(1) I made it so that anyone can make it without a hole punch.
I also made a pattern for the inner colored paper.
(2) Use a little larger drawing paper.
I changed to use a little larger paper and to trim the edges at the end. This method seems to be more beautiful.

I think the area where you have to be careful is when gluing the first sheet of colored construction paper.
If you don’t check, you are likely to apply glue to places where you shouldn’t.
In my first making, I even put glue on the part that was going to be the decorative edge. I almost accidentally applied glue to the tree as well.

I realized after I made it that I should have added some decorations to the tree part. I hope that each of you will devise your own ideas in this area.

So, here it is.
I have published the pattern. I hope you will give it a try.
